of course, as it's the murdering, war-crime-committing, un-mandate-ignoring, nuclear-non-proliferation-flouting israeli friends of america, they probably won't see it as an issue at all.. funny that ... they were dead keen on going to war over just the hint of this very thing but probably won't even condemn it.. it's about time that sanctions were imposed on israel.

The Geneva Conventions ban the use of white phosphorus as an incendiary weapon against civilian populations and in air attacks against military forces in civilian areas.
The above statement might lead you to believe that the Israelis violated the Geneva convention.
WP is allowed in other forms for use by the military in combat situations both as a smokescreen and incendiary device against enemy combatants.
Nobody including the BBC has accused Israel of violating the Geneva Convention.

Israel says it used phosphorus shells in Lebanon Sun 22 Oct 2006 5:52 PM ET
JERUSALEM, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Israel confirmed on Sunday it had used phosporus shells, a controversial munition condemned by many human rights groups, during its war against Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon.
The International Red Cross and other human rights organisations have urged a world ban on the munitions, saying they cause undue suffering through severe burns.
An Israeli military spokesman confirmed a report in Israel's left-leaning newspaper Haaretz that it had used phosphorus munitions in the 34-day offensive against Hezbollah, which ended in a U.N.-brokered ceasefire on Aug. 14.
"The army made use of phosphorus shells during the recent conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon for the purpose of attacking military targets located in open areas," the Israeli military said in a statement.
"According to international law, the usage of phosphorus ammunition is permitted and the army conforms to international regulations and standards."
The United States has acknowledged using incendiary white-phosphorus munitions in a 2004 assault against insurgents in the Iraqi city of Falluja. It says using them against enemy fighters is legal and not banned by any convention.
Human Rights Watch has also accused Israel of using cluster bombs in populated areas of southern Lebanon during the war, which killed about 1,200 Lebanese and 157 Israelis.
Hezbollah, which fired nearly 4,000 rockets into northern Israel, was also accused by human rights groups of using cluster munitions, which are small bomblets that remain unexploded on the ground.

The US won't denounce Israel for using WP because, the US has used it themselves. WP is used in military operations as both cover for troops (smokescreen) and to flush enemy combatants out of trenches (incendiary). The Geneva Convention ban on WP applies to its apllication as a weapon against civilians only. Should WP be banned completely in all its forms for use on civilians or military under the Geneva Convention? Human Rights groups think so. Currently the use of WP for certain military applications is allowed, so the US and Israel will probably continue to use it until it is permanently banned.
Hezbollah is facing similar criticism from human rights groups.
The US will never denounce Israel politically because it represents the only true ally this country has had or will likely ever have in the Middle East.
jeff skilling, one of the top sleazebags who screwed thousands of people out of their jobs, pension and livelihood at enron, will be sentenced tomorrow.

Forget the typical plea bargained "country club" minimum security facility.
1) Have him serve his entire sentence with the general prison population at a maximum security state penetentary.
2) Make sure he always has a roommate.

In a nutshell, a fully indoctrinated Witness would rather die or watch others die than to give up a grain of their 'truth'. They think this is upholding Jehovah's name.
jgnat The nonJW mind will always question the underlying reasoning. Thanks for the reality check!
Ask your mother in law if she would still feel this way if the Catholic Church was still excommunicating people for heresy, and those people committed suicide for losing their family. Ask her if she'd still feel this way if her husband was DF'd and then committed suicide.
Thanks Mary, I will!

When discussing the policy of shunning/disfellowshiping with my JW MIL, I asked her to justify how the WTS can in good concience continue to disfellowship people, knowing that many, many people have committed suicide upon being cut off from family and friends. In my mind and yours I'm sure, even one suicide is too many. Her response was that God knows the hearts of everyone and those unfortunate souls will be judged accordingly. No matter how you try to sugarcoat it, this sounds like "Kill them all. Let God sort them out" to me. Any thoughts?
this teaching is so unique and singular to the jws and fascinates me greatly but i have yet to get any jw answer how this choosing actually happened and instead i'm left with the same feeling of confusion that i get when i ask how someone would know they were anointed.
how did this process of selecting a correct church occur, how did they know it would happen in 1919 if they weren't pre-selected already, how did they know it was going to happen (bit rough on all the other churches who clearly didn't get a chance to spruce themselves up for 1919) and once the votes were cast and jehovah made up his mind how did he inform the contestants of the results?
do the jws claim any kind of divine affirmation of their selection at all?
True story. I worked for a huge electronics company in the 1980's in a major US market. We ran a lot of advertisements in the newspapers. So did our competition. During one of our advertising meetings over the competitive Xmas season, we decided it would help if we were voted the number one electonics firm in Chicago. So one of the 5 people in the meeting said, "I vote that ****** company (ours) is the best." Everyone at the meeting raised their hands and voted, laughed and chuckled and agreed We added a trophy and a caption to our next ad that read, "Voted #1 electonics retailer in Chicago".
The same thing happened with the WTS and 1919. Only they said God voted them #1.
i can't seem to find any links to the annual report released earlier this year.
just wondering how many jws are in north korea.
it's a very oppressive place and must be very difficult for any kind of evangelizing activity.. here's an article i found about missionaries in n. korea: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/19/international/asia/19missionary.html?ex=1292648400&en=1735f2f1e2d4ad24&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss.
Watchtower Stats refer to Korea Rebublic of and list a population of 48,460,590
South Korea is considered the Republic of Korea and has a popluation of approx 48,460,590
North Korea has a population of more like 25,000,000
So the Watchtower stats are for South Korea alone, not North Korea.
99% sure that North Korea does not even allow Witnesses.
shalom everyone,.
i have come to the conclusion in my lab, (and no it's not a meth lab), that the human race is absolutely, beyond any reasonable doubt, stupid.
the human race is indeed the silliest form of life on the planet.
Shalom Butters,
I was fortunate enough to go to Israel in the 1980's for two weeks. (My boss was a lunsman, he took 40 people from the company).
We were at the Western Wall, below the Dome of the Rock and it was getting on towards sunset on Friday. There were a lot of different people and nationalities scurrying around all over the place....when this really sincere person came over and asked if I had family here in Israel. When I replied no, he said come spend the Shabbat with my family. I was a perfect stranger. Stick with the tribe. They are good! Funny too!
